17Apr19 Dodging tornadoes on my way to Amarillo.
Woke up to Pete rumbling to go out to pee. While walking the dogs I met a truck driver walking his dog as well. He was divorced and lived full time in his truck. I've always wondered if I would like long haul trucking. I love to drive and travel so that wouldn't be a problem but I have always driven for pleasure and assumed it would be different if I had to meet a schedule. He told me that it is possible to set your own schedule but of course the faster you make each trip the more trips you can accomplish. More trips means more income. Anyway I would have to get a commercial drivers license and I have a hard enough time just passing a individual vehicle driver's license test so Idoubt I'll be driving an eighteen wheeler anytime soon.
After walking the dogs I had the usual breakfast. After cleaning up I got back on the road heading to Amarillo Texas.
It was a stormy day with a lot of high wind. Listening to an Amarillo radio station I became aware of numerous tornado warnings all around northwestern Texas. For most of the day they said that Amarillo would be clear of any severe weather but as fate would have it as I was approaching they put out a tornado warning for Amarillo.
Knowing that the paths of tornadoes are random and unpredictable it didn't much matter where I parked but perhaps the best place to be would be downtown where the tall buildings might block the strong straight winds at least. After driving around a few blocks I found a parallel parking spot next to a very tall building. That is the main advantage of having the Roadtrek. It just fits in one parallel parking spot.
By the time I got parked it was raining pretty hard and sure enough Pete let me know that he needed a potty walk. It was a wet and cold walk but finally he and Wiggin got their business done. It amazes and frustrates me that Wiggin in particular has to find the perfect spot to do his business. It is actually good in that he typically poops in a bush. I have never seen another dog do that. He will back into a bush hike up one of his legs and poo. Typically his poop lands in or under the bush and I don't even have to clean it up. It is a funny thing to watch but frustrating if the perfect bush cannot be found. I have not figured out what makes one bush better than another.
Back in the Roadtrek I made me some dinner and fed the dogs. I took a nap until around midnight and then I drove to the nearest Walmart where I remote camped for the rest of the night.
